General Bagheri Pakistan visit receives wide media coverage

 Pakistani print and electronic media have given exclusive converge to the important visit of  Chief of General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Bagheri to the country.

All leading newspapers have published news of the visit on their front pages keeping in view the importance of visit for bilateral ties, especially in defense area.

Over the past two days, General Bagheri has held intensive meetings and consultations with Pakistani political and military leaders.

He met with Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Nadeem Reza and Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, and Naval Chief Admiral Amjad Niazi respectively.

English daily ‘The Nation’ in its editorial comments said the visit to Pakistan by the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of Iran, Maj Gen Mohammad Bagheri, raises hopes for improved bilateral ties between Iran and Pakistan.

It said given the unrest brewing in Afghanistan, and the heightened terror attacks along the border of the two countries, the need for closer cooperation to resolve tensions is undeniable.

The paper added Iran and Pakistan highlighted mutual objectives of working on border security and encouraging peace in Afghanistan at the 11th session of the Bilateral Political Consultations (BPC).

‘Express Tribune’ said Pakistan and Iran have agreed to further enhance bilateral defence cooperation and work together for regional peace and a unified response to terrorism, a common enemy to both countries.

The development came as Major General Mohammad Bagheri, the Chief of General Staff (CGS) of the Iranian Armed Forces, held separate meetings with the civilian and military leadership.

Daily ‘Dawn’ the leading Pakistani English newspaper said in a sign of growing defence ties, Pakistani and Iranian militaries have agreed on training exchanges and enhanced counterterrorism cooperation.

The understanding was reached during a meeting between Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Gen Qamar Bajwa and visiting Iranian Chief of General Staff Maj Gen Mohammad Bagheri at the General Headquarters.

Daily ‘The News’ reported The military leadership of Pakistan and Iran have agreed on enhancing defence cooperation and working together for regional peace and on unified response to terrorism.

Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of the General Staff (CGS) of Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, at head of a high-level delegation separately called on Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Nadeem Raza and Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed here Wednesday.

Daily ‘the Nation’ in another report said Prime Minister Imran Khan says that Pakistan and Iran have direct stake in peace and stability in Afghanistan.

PM Imran Khan while talking to Iranian Chief of General Staff Major General Mohammad Bagheri in Islamabad said that Pakistan wishes to see a peaceful and stable Afghanistan with sustainable economy and promoting connectivity.

‘Geo Tv’ in its report said Iran"s Chief of General Staff of Armed Forces Maj Gen Mohammad Bagheri and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Gen Nadeem Raza have discussed ways for both countries to increase cooperation in defence, security and counter terrorism.

‘Samaa tv’ said Chief of General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces and Chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee or JCSC discussed regional developments, the situation in Afghanistan, strengthening of defense ties between the two countries and enhancing border cooperation.

‘Dunya Tv’ reported Prime Minister Imran Khan has described the Pakistan-Iran border as a border of ‘peace and friendship’, and underlined the importance of steps taken for enhanced security on both sides.

He said this while talking to Major General Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of Iran on called on him in Islamabad on Wednesday.

Radio Pakistan in a report said Prime Minister Imran Khan has emphasized on close coordination between Pakistan and Iran through the platform of six neighbouring countries on evolving situation in Afghanistan.

Talking to the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of Iran Major General Mohammad Bagheri in Islamabad, he said the two countries have direct stake in peace and stability in Afghanistan.

While the official radio in another report said Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa says Pakistan and Iran are two brotherly countries and their close cooperation is vital for regional peace and stability.

He was talking to Iranian Chief of General Staff Major General Mohammad Bagheri, who called on him in Rawalpindi.

Daily ‘Business Recorder’ said the chiefs of the armed forces of Pakistan and Iran have agreed to further enhance defence cooperation and working together for regional peace and unified response to a common enemy.

Meanwhile all Pakistani Urdu newspapers namely Jang, Express, Dunya, Ausaf, Nai Baat, Nawa-i-waqt, 92 newspaper, Ummat, in their headline covered the visit of General Bagheri.
